Key Haven is a great family-oriented community located 5 miles North of Key West. The draw to Key Haven is the ability to have your boat docked at your back door either on a canal or open-water and still be a short drive to Key West proper. Not every street has water access, but the majority do. The style of homes in this neighborhood range from Mediterranean, tropical, ultra-modern, mid-century modern and pure fixer-uppers.
Technically, this suburb is part of Monroe County and not Key West although it still carries the Key West zip code. Therefore, residents do not vote in city elections or adhere to the City of Key West building requirements, they must follow Monroe County. There is a new gated development that has begun construction at the entrance of Key Haven with a private boat dock in the “old ski rink”. Key Haven is directly across from Stock Island on US1. Although there are no restaurants within Key Haven, there are several delicious and funky restaurants on Stock Island, such as The Hogfish Bar & Grill, Chico’s Mexican Cantina, and Roostica Pizzeria.
